Queen City
Skateboarding in Buffalo, New York, is extremely challenging. The weather is harsh, the city is deteriorating, and the few skate spots are among the roughest in America. Naturally, we wanted to go. Buffalo is one of the most segregated urban centers in the U.S., a result of a long history of racial residential segregation. Before World War II, work, not race, determined residential areas in this industrial city. As of 2022, Buffalo is the sixth most segregated city in the U.S., and times remain tough. Despite a University at Buffalo study showing no progress for Black residents over the past thirty years, the community continues to embody the creed, “when the going gets tough, the tough get going.” There is an amazing skate shop here, one of my favorites, Moms - give them a visit if you are in town..
