North Kaka
For over 10 years, friends from Ottawa and Montreal have rented a massive house in North Carolina to skate backyard pools. This annual pilgrimage is my favorite skate trip, blending vacation, skating, and beach partying. I was invited by my friend Julian Garner years ago, and I work all year to make sure I can travel to the Outer Banks. We skate, drink, laugh, and enjoy the usual shenanigans of a week-long skate trip. Watching my friends roll through pool blocks every year is something I’m grateful for.
The hospitality we receive is incredible. People let us invade their private spaces, spill beer, and bleed all over their pool blocks. These unsung heroes dedicate time and money to build these amazing spaces. Their dedication inspires us to go home and create something for ourselves.
