Rust Belt
The "Rust Belt" describes regions affected by deindustrialization, economic decline, and urban decay, particularly in the steel, auto, and coal industries. Unlike the flourishing Sun Belt, these areas have struggled, but they offer unique skateboarding experiences that I cherish. Our journeys from Ottawa often took us to these seemingly overlooked American cities.
Despite their rough edges and similar architecture, what truly set these cities apart was their resilience and creativity in reviving decayed neighborhoods through arts and culture. The grit and determination of the Rust Belt communities resonate deeply with the spirit of skateboarding, making each visit a unique adventure.
